What am I doing? Why am I starting a blog in the year 2019? Who knows, I don't! What I can say is what I think I'm going to do: which is write about math, and in particular, differential equations, their numerical solution, and the philosophy (both colloquial and academic) of mathematics. Not always together, but sometimes. This makes for an odd combination, since the former two categories have often been considered of less philosophical interest and the latter of less applied mathematical interest. Partially this may often be the case, but I'm particularly interested in when it is not the case. Maybe that means smarter people than I on both sides of the fence might find value in it, or maybe that it will end up being a loss. Either way, we'll find out!
I also have my own struggles as a beginning graduate student to write about, which may be of broader interest, so stay tuned.
P.S. C&D is short for Coffee and Donut, the main source of sustenance for UWaterloo math graduate students.
